Oh, the Places You'll Go: This Year's Choices for Content Marketing Conferences

As marketers, we know we need to network and attend conferences, but which ones offer the best return on investment?

“Oh, the places you’ll go!” Dr. Seuss tapped into our wanderlust when he penned this awesome book back in 1990. But let’s be honest about our geeked-out relationship with content marketing. Which is bigger: your bucket list of places to go on vacation, or your bucket list of content marketing conferences this year? It’s downright difficult to whittle down that list, isn’t it?

Sure, there’s the cost of the event and lost productivity – but as Moz points out, you’ll gain new skills, unique ideas, and new relationships, and you’ll pack in some additional courage, commitment, and inspiration. As Dr. Seuss wrote, “You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself in any direction you choose.” Which marketing conferences offer you the biggest opportunity to expand your horizons this year?

July 10-13

“Don’t worry. Don’t stew.” VidCon is a good choice if video marketing is your jam. It’s the conference’s 10th year of bringing together brands, video marketers, and social media experts who set the trends for video marketing. Brands such as YouTube, Adobe, Skittles, and Canon will sponsor this conference.

You’ll venture to sunny Anaheim, California. It’s a good choice if you’re a social media influencer, a videographer, or a video marketer.

July 15-17

“Un-slumping yourself is not easily done,” says Dr. Seuss. If that sums up your current challenge with SEO and content, plan to attend MozCon in Seattle. This annual event is put on by Moz for its program subscribers, but it’s also open to anyone for a higher admission price.

This year’s speaker lineup reads like a who’s who of the content marketing industry. The conference schedule features plenty of opportunities to come away with actionable items to take your SEO and content marketing game to the next level. It’s a good choice if you are an individual or work for an agency that specializes in SEO analytics and content creation.

August 20-22

Sometimes it’s difficult to find gatherings that are all about content creation. As Dr. Seuss explains, “Simple it's not, I'm afraid you will find, for a mind-maker-upper to make up his mind.” You can easily decide to attend CONEX – The Content Experience. The name of the conference itself speaks volumes about its benefit.

The two-day conference features 15 keynote speakers in a series of workshops that are geared toward writers or content creators. You’ll be heading north to Toronto for this event.

September 3-6

“And will you succeed? Yes! You will, indeed! (98 and ¾ percent guaranteed.)” You can pretty much transfer that level of assurance to your content marketing efforts if you take up the Content Marketing Institute’s invitation to attend their Content Marketing World conference in Cleveland.

This event is aptly named. Marketers from over 50 countries attended last year. They went to take advantage of the conference’s sessions and workshops, which are presented by some of the leading brand marketers and experts around the world. This year’s lineup is stellar.

Plan to be at this conference if you want to go home with everything you’ll need to implement a content marketing strategy to grow and inspire your audience.

September 3-6

“So be sure when you step. Step with care and great tact and remember that Life's
a Great Balancing Act.”
Words to remember from our doctor friend – especially in this case of dueling conferences. HubSpot has their Inbound conference planned during the same dates as the Content Marketing Institute’s event.

It might not be too difficult to decide which conference to attend if you use the HubSpot platform for content marketing. Over 24,000 people attended last year’s event. This year’s conference features an even bigger lineup.

This conference will take you to Boston, and it’s a smart choice for any HubSpot user who wants to network and come away with actionable ideas to make the platform work even better for content marketing.

September 4-7

We’re done with double-booking. It’s likely that you’d want to pass on HubSpot and the Content Marketing Institute’s competing conferences and head to FinCon if you produce content marketing for the finance and tax industries.

Billed as the event where money and media meet, the conference – located in Washington, D.C. – is an annual gathering for self-professed money nerds who network and trade ideas on how to create better content for these specific industries.

October 21-22

“Take a bite of the Big Apple!” is something Dr. Seuss did not say (or at least write in any of his books). But New York City is the place to be for Incite’s Brand Marketing Summit NYC. If you’ve got CMO as part of your title – or at least your job description – this conference is for you. It’s billed as the only CMO-led event for brand, digital, performance, and content marketing professionals.

This is a leader’s conference. You’ll interact with executives from brands such as Adidas, Budweiser, Mastercard, Target, and Qualcomm.

Where will you go?

“Today is your day! Your mountain is waiting. So ... get on your way!” That’s the challenge Dr. Seuss leaves with us as he concludes his book. As content marketing professionals, our mountain is the challenge of delivering education, perspective, and relevance for customers as they move through the buyer’s journey. Oh, the places they’ll go – with your help. Find out how we can help you take them there.
