Chewing the Fat Episode 6: How to Stand Out Amongst the Noise

In this episode of Chewing the Fat, Wendy and Jason talk about how to stand out as a founder.

There’s a lot of noise out there. Social media, websites, email inbox, ads, general browsing, etc. How do you stay visible in all that noise as someone who runs a brand?

Wendy, co-founder of ContentBacon, is most interested in seeing things she’s actually interested in. Particularly, what will help her be happy and stay effective.

So, content has to be targeted. It has to be useful, well-written, and authentic information. It’s easy to sniff out manipulation with cutesy or salesy tactics.

Your voice needs to sound human, and content needs to be visually pleasing and easy to interact with. But, it’s a quick turn-off if a brand stalks a user after they interact with something.

For example, Instagram’s ad algorithms create more frustrating experiences because you can’t do much of anything without being inundated with ads.

Know who your audience is. If you’re marketing to everyone, you’re marketing to no one. What you’re sharing should be from their perspective, not yours. Emphasize what’s in it for them. Content needs to create a good user experience with well-written content.

Wendy and Jason agree that consistency from founders pays off. If you’re trying to get the word out about your brand, the bar is pretty low right now. Most founders don’t have the time for people to actually hear from them, so taking that step can help you stand out. Being more personal becomes more relatable, helping you connect with your audience.
